Growing Pains
Posted on
Do you remember as a child, getting those weird pains in your limbs, and being told they were growing pains. I can certainly remember telling my daughter she had growing pains whenever she would complain of the pains. I didn't have the awareness that I have now, and in a way felt as though I was fobbing her off, but I somehow inherently knew that diverting her attention away from the pain was much more productive that giving it more attention. And it was, I think I gave her my 'diagnosis' three times, and I seem to remember the fourth time she mentioned the pain, and then 'diagnosed' herself. And that diagnosis worked every single time, no further issues arose from said pain, because she trusted me and accepted that I knew what I was talking about. Of course I did and I didn't, but that didn't matter, what mattered was that she forgot about any pain, and moved on with her life.
Wouldn't it be nice if we took that into adulthood. Things only manifest when we give them our attention, our body naturally feels pain when it adapts to new circumstances, which could be brought on by any number of things. The important thing to take from this is that if we leave it alone to do it's thing, it will adapt with barely any problems. But we love to grab hold of any and all bodily issues, and ponder on all the things that could be causing them, talk about them with others, think about them and worry about them. But is our attention to them that is making them bigger, every time - if you can divert your attention whilst they are small and inconsequential, then they will simply fade away.
So whenever you get an ache, or a pain, of any description, here's my diagnosis...............
You have growing pains xx
